Visual design, Web Design & Web Development
A bold new design for a grass roots movement

I worked with Ethnic Rainbow Alliance to create a visual identity and digital presence that celebrates diversity, builds trust, and amplifies their voice. Together, we shaped a brand that feels powerful, authentic, and ready to grow
The Challenge
Ethnic Rainbow Alliance needed a brand and website that reflected their values and resonated with the broad range of stakeholders they serve.
Their existing presence didn’t capture the energy of their work, and it was hard for supporters to see just how much they were doing.
There was no suitable stock photography available that reflects this community. And the client was adamant; ‘No Rainbows!’

The Approach
Through collaborative workshops, we uncovered their vision for a brand that was strong, authentic and community-driven. The brand would be popularised by giving away merch packs and stickers at community events.
From there, I developed a flexible identity system, went from ‘no rainbows’ to ‘no colour at all’, and designed a website that could support everything from advocacy campaigns to community events.

The Solution
The new brand uses strong typography to create the impact the client was after.
On the website, we built simple tools for event promotion, storytelling, and resource sharing, giving ERA a digital home they could be proud of.

Audience Insight
When you speak, your community listens
One of Ethnic Rainbow Alliance’s big stakeholder groups is community leaders. When we were promoting a new series of workshops, we were able to identify the audience using the phrase ‘When you speak, your community listens.’ These were the people this workshop was for.
This translated all the way through to the landing page copy where we immediately identify and make it clear who this workshop is for. We communicate that we see you, we know you and we are talking to you.

GSAP
Scrollbar takeover
For the launch of Ethnic Rainbow Alliance’s podcast we did a home page takeover with GSAP scroll trigger behaviour. The scroll bar becomes the play control for the video. As the user scrolls, the video plays. The way the interaction is driven by the user, through the scroll bar, is really satisfying experience.
(Please excuse the jerky nature of the video below, that’s my scrolling, not the website)
Highlight
The pleasure in taking a moment to notice just how far you have come
One impactful design decision was the creation of a simple events list.
Charities are always hustling. There’s always another event, another gathering, another campaign. But I noticed that once an event had passed, it disappeared from view. All the energy, planning, and community building simply slipped into the background.
I wanted Ethnic Rainbow Alliance’s website to reflect their hard work and celebrate their history. So I designed a bold, simple events archive that listed not just what was coming up, but everything they’d hosted over the past few years.
The effect was immediate. Instead of a single upcoming date, the site now told a story of ongoing commitment and community impact. The ERA team could see their efforts recognised, and visitors could instantly grasp the scale and consistency of their work.
