A safer future, co-designed with community

I worked with GendAffirm to co-design a brand, website, and digital tool that meets a real need in the trans community. This project was built with community at the centre. Every decision, from naming to navigation, came from listening and building alongside those it was made for.

The Challenge

Trans and gender diverse people often face uncertainty and discrimination in employment. GendAffirm set out to change that, but to do it right, it had to be led by the community itself.

The challenge was to create a brand and platform that felt empowering, trustworthy, and genuinely useful, something that spoke to lived experience rather than corporate promise.

The Approach

We took a co-design approach from the very beginning. Through workshops and one-on-one sessions, we listened to trans and non-binary voices about what “safety at work” really means.

Those insights shaped everything, the tone, the colour palette, even the illustrations were designed by one of the community. Every element was built with, for and by the people it serves.

The Solution

The result is a warm, human brand and a clean, accessible website that empowers users to find safe workplaces and celebrate those leading the way.

The GendAffirm database continues to grow as more employers commit to meaningful gender-affirming policies, a living proof of what’s possible when we design with community, not just for it.
